Having completed a Geography BSc degree at the University of Wolverhampton, England, Emma then worked in industry for two years. Following this, she went on to complete her PGCE at the University of Birmingham. Since graduating she has worked as a geography teacher, Advanced Skills Teacher (AST), Lead Practitioner and Literacy Manager in a suburban school in the West Midlands where she remained until her family moved to Shanghai in 2015. During those 15 years, she has worked with Newly Qualified Teachers and other mainstream schools around the country to improve the quality of teaching and learning, alongside sharing good practice.
Having moved to China two and half years ago, initially for her husband’s job, Emma was keen to return to teaching following the smooth transition for her own children into BISS. Since then, she has been very fortunate to have had many new opportunities, including the challenge of learning a new language, teaching intensive English lessons and working with multi-cultural children at BISS Puxi. Emma has taught Geography, History and EAL at BISS.
Making this move to China has inspired Emma to travel to diverse regions of the world and unlock experiences of many exciting cultures. From this, she enjoys sharing her passions with future generations. Apart from travelling, she takes pleasure in keeping fit through different sports, reading and cooking which is enhanced by experiencing the culinary delights of Shanghai’s world class restaurants and the many street foods available.
Emma is inspired and motivated when working with people from diverse backgrounds and immersing herself in multi-lingual communities. She feels she has a caring and approachable nature, building trusting relationships with her students and is looking forward to her new role as Head of Year 7 and the KS3 Coordinator.
