Dear Parents,

Today our corridors were filled with witches and wizards, ghosts and ghouls, pumpkins and skeletons…yes; it was our annual Halloween dress up day in Primary. Children brought in generous donations which will all go to one of our community partners, Hy Vong School for the Deaf. Students from Hy Vong are visiting our campus and are going to have fun with our Year 6 children on 6 separate visits this half-term. On their final visit we would like to have a party and present Christmas gifts to the students to ensure they have a lovely festive time too. Thank you to everyone who has sent in donations. We will present you with a grand total of the money raised in the hub article next week.

Today, I also had the pleasure of officially opening our very own Global Games. Nord Anglia International School from Hong Kong joined The British Vietnamese International School, Royal City and our own BIS team for three days of competitions. Football for the under 11s and under 13s was held today; athletics is scheduled tomorrow and swimming on Sunday. It is the hope that we can enforce the values of the recent Olympic Games: those of excellence, friendship and respect. I am looking forward to watching the competition unfold this weekend and feeding back on some of the highlights next week.
Respect is the characteristic, from the BIS Aide Memoire, this half-term and children will be focusing on the Superhero, Respectagain. In assembly, we thought about how we should have respect for ourselves and others. Everyone is special even when they look different to us or act in different ways. International Week is an excellent opportunity for children to find out about other countries and their cultures and to appreciate and celebrate those differences.

Our International Week is going to happen week commencing 14th November with an amazing International Festival scheduled for Saturday 19th November. Every class has been allocated a country to find out about and we have teams of parents from different nationalities who are already very busy preparing for the event. The theme of the International Week is ‘The Alternative Olympic Games!’. We are going to be learning about games around the world which would never make the official games. In the Auditorium on Friday of International Week, we will be rotating around several games in a fun learning experience.

In addition to playing games, we will also be enjoying food from around the world in the canteen. All parents are invited to contribute to the international buffet.

Next week, we will be holding parent and teacher meetings to provide parents with the opportunity to hear how their child is performing with respect to the expectations for the class. If you have not yet made appointments then please contact the Primary Office to find available times to meet.
