While everyone was enjoying a summer vacation, BIS Hanoi was a hive of activity.  Swimming for Safety is a programme operated and developed by Hue Help and works to IFSTA standards.  Mrs. Gill Lever, the Swimming for Safety Programme Coordinator at Hue Help, with a grant funded by Hanoi International Women’s Club, has been helping to train local school teachers in swimming and water safety.  They then went on to teach primary school children from Long Bien schools, as recommended by the Vietnamese Department of Education and Training.

Vietnam has the highest drowning rate in SE Asia; Hanoi actually has one of the highest drowning rates of all Vietnamese cities.  More children die from drowning than road traffic accidents and drowning is the leading cause of death for children aged 1-19 years.
