Welcome from our new Heads of Maths
Welcome from our new Heads of Maths The mathematics team aim to motivate and inspire all our students within a stimulating, challenging and positive environment, and I have no doubt that our students at British International School, Hanoi will look forward to studying Maths and striving to achieve to their full potential.

Mathematics is an imaginative, creative way of thinking which is fundamental to everyday life. The language of mathematics is international. Learning mathematics is also about discovering where it has come from, why it is necessary and how different cultures have contributed to the way it has developed over time. It has a rich and fascinating history and has been developed across the world to solve many problems, for example in business, finance, science, engineering, technology, economics, public decision-making…and so the list goes on. It is a truly exciting subject which requires a great number of different skills.

Having studied and taught in Edinburgh for several years, followed by some extensive travel, I was keen to combine two of my biggest passions - teaching mathematics and travelling. I couldn’t think of a better combination than teaching internationally, continuing to do the job that I love and being able to explore and learn about the areas, the people and the cultures around me.

I am now in my seventeenth year of teaching and this is my fourth international school. I joined British International School, Hanoi one year ago and have been appointed as Mathematics leader for this academic year. In my previous school in Malaysia, I was Head of department for four years, setting up the department from scratch, as well as Head of Year 9 for three years. With this experience, along with the dedicated and excellent team of Mathematics teachers we have at British International School, Hanoi, we are really looking forward to the year ahead and the successes it will bring. The mathematics team aim to motivate and inspire all our students within a stimulating, challenging and positive environment, and I have no doubt that our students at BIS Hanoi will look forward to studying Maths and striving to achieve to their full potential.
