I write this after having seen our school production of The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe, This very famous tale of the journey of four children who enter the magical world of Narnia and encounter the good lion Azlan, and the evil White Witch has entranced generations of children. This week our student’s interpretation was no less entrancing and I was left in awe at the quality of the show.
The acting, set design and musical accompaniment was of the highest quality. Acting is such a hard skill to do well and I was so proud of the way our students were able not just to learn their parts, but to be able to interpret the nuance and meaning of their lines.
A show of this size is such a team effort, it requires direction, production, prop and set design, musical arrangements and lightning and sound engineering. These separate parts all have to come together over many many hours of practice and rehearsal and requires all involved to give up their time and energy in order for the magic to happen. I have seen the amazing Azlan model being built over many months in the Art department!
My thanks go to Olivia Hutchinson for having the vision and drive to see this through to completion. To all other staff involved, thank you for enabling this show to be the success it was, and to all the student actors, I think you are amazing.
The show was a wonderful way to finish what has been a fantastic first term. However as we approach the last week before our Christmas holiday we still have so many brilliant events happening.
On Monday we have our annual inter house athletics sports day. This event is at an athletics track away from school and parents are reminded that all students should be picked up from 4.00pm at school, as there will not be any buses available.
On Tuesday we are having Blue Dragon day where students are encouraged to wear their Blue Dragon t shirts to support this great charity.
On Wednesday it is our annual Christmas market. I would like to encourage as many parents as possible to come along to school from 1 to 3 pm on that day to take part in the market, and support all the many stalls that the students have organised. It promises to be a terrific event where we are hoping to raise a lot of money for Blue Dragon and Operation Smile.
We finish term next Friday - it is an early finish with the buses leaving school at 12:30pm.
I hope you all have a great week ahead and hope to see many of you on Wednesday at the Christmas market.
