A very warm welcome back to our parents, students and all of our staff after the traditional Christmas break.  Having been in Hanoi and seen first-hand the crowds and excitement surrounding this time, it is clear that this is increasingly an important time.  With the lunar new year and Tet coming up too, there will be another new year to celebrate as we welcome the Year of the Chicken.

New years and new resolutions?  Easy to form and easy to break.  But at the British Vietnamese International School in Hanoi, our resolutions to provide a first class education remain undiminished and unaffected by the passage of time.  What we started out to achieve is being realized as we see teachers of quality helping students with passion to learn.

We will continue in this vision, engaging parents in their children’s learning and school experiences. We will be preparing your children for the wider world with global outreach, fully bilingual and adept in the necessary skills for modern living.  The challenge is there.  A recent article by Andreas Schleicher,  Director of the Education Directorate of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development outlines just these challenges in a fascinating article which I have shared for you.  Do read it if you can.  It underpins much of the philosophy behind why we do what we do, and how we do it through: exploratory learning underpinned by rigour discipline and self exploration.  I commend it to you.

There are a few important events coming up that I would like to draw your attention to:

Tet Fair at the British Vietnamese International School (Primary Campus) on Sunday 15th January.  Invitations will be circulated via students early next week.  This is an invitation only event for our whole school community

2016 Students’ IGCSE Certificate Ceremony at the British Embassy, Phan Chu Trinh.  This is a closed invitation event only and more details will be sent in due course to parents and students from last year’s Year 11.  This will be held on the evening of Thursday 9th February.

International A Levels Conference in collaboration with Cambridge International Examinations at the Melia Hotel, Ly Thuong Kiet on Saturday 18th March with registrations at 8.30am.

A very happy start to the weekend and New Year.

Mr. Mark Sayer - Principal
