Staff Profile: Mark Sayer

Certificate in Education – King’s College, London, UK

MA (Hons), Classics –University of Cambridge, UK

The Principal of BVIS (Royal City) is Mark Sayer, who was born and educated in the UK. Mark graduated from the University of Cambridge in Classics (Greek, Latin, and Ancient History) and was later awarded a Master’s Degree from the same University.

After following a career in accountancy, marketing and business development, Mark began teaching Classics in 1995 at Wellington College. He taught here for 13 years, during which time he ran a boys’ senior boarding house, taking full responsibility for the students’ academic and extra-curricular progress, their pastoral care, examination and university entrance procedures. In 2008, Mark was appointed to the headship of Elstree School, a school catering for boys and girls aged 3 to 13. He maintained a strong academic and pastoral ethos during this time, preparing pupils for some of the best senior schools in the UK. BVIS Hanoi is Mark’s first international posting, although he has wide experience of international students at both Wellington College and Elstree School.

In his spare time, Mark likes reading, foreign language films and study, fitness and photography.
