Secondary Sports Update – 13 Nov 2015

U19 Girls Basketball Squad Open the Season with A Bang

The U19 Girls Basketball Squad got off to a great start with a commanding 32 – 5 win over The European International School. The girls showed tremendous determination through their suffocating and relentless defense. The offense started off slowly but once they settled down their teamwork and passing took over. With a barrage of steals and tenacious play attacking the girls were able to score the most points in BVIS Girls basketball history. Magda earned player of the game by providing constant pressure on defense and leading the team in scoring. Great job ladies!

U19 Girls Volleyball team won the City Championships

This year the U19 Girls Volleyball team have made history by winning the City Championships. On Monday 9th November they took on 3 other teams at AIS where they certainly showed us and their opponents what they were made of. A nail biting first game saw them beat AIS in a 2-1 set victory. Secondly they were faced with AAVN, who they had beaten the Thursday before at the home fixture. The score reflected their skill and determination with a 2-0 win. At this point we knew we were through to the final so we used our third game, against the other finalists TIS, to realise their strengths and weaknesses. Unfortunately we lost this game, 2-1. But there were many positives to take from it, and the set that we did win, we demonstrated true belief and a huge amount of team spirit.

We awaited the final game against TIS, knowing we could do it, knowing that we had the skill and belief. We took the first set very convincingly and we swapped sides of the net for the second set. TIS rose to the challenge, serving very well and took the second set from us. This was it, we had come all this way and we were in a 3 set thriller. We were the first team to 8 points, so we changed sides of the net confidently. Points were won and lost and we faced a match point at 14-13. The girls held their composure and the support from everyone around us was amazing. The final point came and we jumped in the air when we realised we had won.

The girls were a true privilege to work with, they listened to advise, worked hard for one another and dug deep when they needed to . We are very proud of you all! Well done.

Ms Riley and Ms May
