Community Learning at BVIS

Our weekly Primary school assemblies are held in the Main Hall at 08:45 on Friday mornings. These assemblies are an additional opportunity for learning outside of the classroom as well as being a celebration of achievement and a special time in the week when the whole school comes together. Learning, fun, excitement, reflection and music all form part of the weekly assembly experience in the Primary school here at the British Vietnamese International School and parents are always welcome.

Last Friday’s assembly in the Primary school focussed upon the concept of “community”. Supported by Ms Gillie, our Community Learning Coordinator, Year 4 children explained to the rest of the school how we are all members of more than one community. They shared many examples of how they are members of the BVIS community, the Ho Chi Minh City community, the Vietnamese community as well as the global community.

Ms Gillie also awarded two of the BVIS Primary students with “Community Hero” certificates as they spend time with their families outside of school helping children who are not as fortunate as they are. We believe there are probably other children in the school who voluntarily spend their free time helping others in the Vietnamese community. Please do let us know if your family is involved in volunteer work as we would like to celebrate how your child cares about others and encourage others to do the same.

“Community Learning” is an area the school feels is an important part of our children’s development as citizens of the future. Through community learning, they can develop all aspects of the school’s Mission Statement, thereby developing skills and understanding for life.
