Young Musician of the Year
This week Mr Paul Murphy from Juilliard, New York has visited BVIS for the first in a series of visits over the next few years. As well as carrying out some lesson observations of Primary music lessons and participating in Friday’s Primary assembly, he also attended the semi-final of the BIS-BVIS Young Musician of the Year competition 2016.
Ten semi-finalists performed to a small audience and a panel of three judges. The winners who will perform in the Young Musician of the Year final after the school holidays with the BIS finalists are:
Congratulations to all our young musicians for playing so beautifully in the semi-final. Good luck to Ha Trung and Puppy for the final Thursday 27th October!
Phonics coffee morning
On Thursday we held the final coffee morning in our programme of 3 sessions to support parents of children learning phonics. Once again it was a fun, practical session ably assisted by a group of Year 3 children who modelled techniques and coached parents.
I would like to thank all the parents who attended these sessions and participated so enthusiastically. I would also like to thank Ms Ha and Ms Rachael, our Vietnamese and English Literacy Coordinators, for their hard work to prepare and deliver the phonics coffee mornings.
One advantage of children studying in a school with older students is the wonderful opportunity for peer learning. Over the past few weeks, students studying drama in the Secondary School have been preparing workshops for Year 6 classes on the topic of bullying.
