U14 Boys’ Football Championship update

The BVIS were first to arrive at AIS, the venue for the 2015-2016 SISAC Pool C Under 14 Boys’ Football Championship, ready to compete in this years’ tournament. The boys were well prepared for the competition due to their hard work and commitment at Wednesday training sessions, Friday five-a-side club and Sunday training with the boys from the Green Bamboo Shelter.

Their first opponents were the hosts AIS, who had beaten us in the league 7-3. In that game, AIS used the small pitch and large goals to their advantage, playing a long ball game, putting the BVIS defence under pressure. However, when the big occasion arrived the BVIS defence was up to the challenge. We played our passing game and overcame a 2-0 deficit to win the game 7-3.

After a well earned rest in the afternoon heat, the boys’ next opponents were SSIS. Again, BVIS were able to play their passing game and after a slow start eventually finished the game as monumental 17-2 victors.
Finishing top of the group, BVIS went onto face EIS in the semifinals. Fielding a young team and with a lack of substitutes, EIS succumbed to a 14-1 loss at the hands of the Unicorns.

In the other semi final AIS beat AAVN in a closely fought match, meaning the final would be a repeat of the first game.
As the whistle blew for the start of the final, BVIS immediately stamped their authority on the game and had one hand on the Championship trophy. Kiet assisted Ben and Khoi with two excellent throw-ins and BVIS went into half time as 3-0 leaders. In the second half AIS began to dominate, playing their goal kicks deep into the BVIS area. As nervousness crept into the BVIS team, AIS brought the game back to within striking distance. At 4-3 to BVIS, AIS hit the post twice and the outstanding Quang Anh saved his team on a number of occasions. Led by captain Hao, BVIS showed brilliant attitude, communication and teamwork to hold off the AIS onslaught and as the final whistle blew we were jubilant as the realisation set in; BVIS are 2015-2016 SISAC Pool C Under 14 Boys’ Football Champions!
