Secondary Update – Mr Simon Graves – 12/05/2017

  • 540 x 329 (3)

With Years 11, 12 and 13 fully focused on their IGCSEs and A levels, you might think the school to be a quieter place – but not a bit of it!

On Tuesday we had no fewer than two events taking place: in school, the Year 10 IGCSE music students performed at the Juiliiard music evening and did a wonderful job. I hope that those of you who came along were impressed by yet more of the opportunities on offer to our young people through this wonderful collaboration.

The same evening, Mr Cryan took some of his geography students from years 8, 9 and 10 to ISHMC to compete in the Geography Worldwise Quiz against other Saigon international schools. Their performance was nothing short of incredible, and you can read about it here.

On Wednesday morning, I had the immense pleasure of attending our 2017 Secondary Poetry Slam. As always, this was a dual language event, with poems being performed in both Vietnamese and English, and this year the standard was higher than ever. The range of vocabulary and poetic techniques used, in both languages, and the confidence with which they were performed, belied the young age of the poets. I look forward to seeing all the poems in print when we publish our first BVIS Poetry Anthology soon, but in the meantime you can read about the winners of the Slam here.

Have a wonderful weekend.
