Our teaching is based on the 2012 English National Foundation Stage curriculum and is delivered through a multi-sensory, play-based approach. Our students sing, dance, go on trips, cook delicious and healthy food, swim, experiment, paint, read, use construction toys and generally have a wonderful time.
We maximise our wonderful Foundation Stage Playgrounds which act as an extension of the classroom to expand the range of activities students may access on a daily basis.
The Early Years Foundation Stage (Nursery and FS2) has 7 areas of learning and development:
- Personal, Social and Emotional Development
- Communication and Language
- Physical Development
- Understanding the World
- Expressive Arts and Design
These areas of learning and development are explored through topics such as Amazing Animals, Superheroes, The Land Before Time and Blast Off! The teacher plays a key role in providing children with a safe, secure feeling at school, which helps them to thrive.
Lunch time is a happy and sociable time in EYFS and the children very much enjoy sitting with their friends to eat their lunch and talk about their busy day or perhaps their weekend adventures.
In EYFS1 the children eat their lunch in their own classrooms with their friends and their teacher and learning support assistants, who sit and eat with the children and help promote good manners and social skills. We promote healthy eating and we encourage the EYFS1 children to bring into school a packed lunch which they have helped to prepare at home, containing a variety of healthy foods.
In EYFS2 the children have a family style lunch together each day where all classes eat together in our separate FS Dining Room. The children have the option of purchasing a hot dinner from the Canteen or bringing in a healthy packed lunch from home. Teachers and learning support assistants sit and eat with the children to again encourage good manners and social skills.
