Ruth Monaghan

FS2 Deputy Year Leader

Miss Monaghan studied Primary Education at Manchester Metropolitan University, and joined the school in 2016.

Once I graduated I taught at a school in Greater Manchester. It was the school’s practice to move year groups regularly so I had experience teaching in Reception, Year 1, 2 & 3. Teaching across EYFS and Key Stage 1 and 2 has given me the opportunity to broaden my knowledge of two differing curriculums, allowing me to understand children’s natural development and the progress children are expected to make during their time at primary school.

I also completed a Masters degree in Teaching. This enabled me to keep up to date with current educational topics and also allowed me to reflect upon and improve my teaching. I then taught at an Infant School in Buxton, Derbyshire, where I took on a leadership role; responsible for children’s Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural development. Throughout my time at both schools, I have been involved with training staff to become confident in teaching and monitoring new schemes and initiatives. I have embedded a strong and progressive curriculum across various subject areas and coached staff accordingly. I had wanted to live and teach abroad for some time to experience a diverse setting that is rich in culture and that's why I applied to work at The British International School in Abu Dhabi as I felt I was ready for a new challenge, and what better opportunity than living and working in a new country.

I am ambitious and like to challenge myself, this is a trait I promote towards my students; having high expectations and providing opportunities for all students to reach their full potential.  I also have a very calming and caring personality, again something which transfers to the classroom, ensuring good relationships between myself and the students I teach.

I have a positive outlook on life and try to live life to the full. I love to travel, some of my favourite places are Portugal, Singapore and Borneo. I love to immerse myself in new cultures and traditions. I am always willing to try something new, from new food to different activities. I like to keep active by dancing, swimming, going on long walks and going to the gym. I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, particularly holidays in sunny climates!
