Caitríona Morgan

Head of Year 1

Ms Morgan joined BIS Abu Dhabi in 2015 from a fellow Nord Anglia Education school, BISS Puxi in China.

After my first degree in the Arts, I undertook a TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) course and moved to South Korea to teach English to children from 4 to 14 years of age at a private language school.  I spent a year there and thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of Korean life and all of my experiences in Korean schools.

After my time in Korea, I embarked on a Post Graduate Diploma in Primary Education and went on to teach in Upper Key Stage 2 with an outstanding school in East Edinburgh, which was part of a lovely small community.  After a year there, I returned to Ireland and completed a course of study on the Irish language and taught in Early Years and Key Stage 1 for four years in Dublin.  I coordinated the Music and History curriculum, had responsibility for the Green School’s Programme and ran annual Book Week events and fairs. I decided it was then the time to embark on international teaching after four years there.

Having enjoyed my time in South Korea, I decided to go to Asia again.  I joined BISS Puxi, (China) in August 2011 when the school expanded.  I worked in Year 1 for three years and in Year 2 for one year. I really enjoyed this key stage; helping children develop their independence, both personally and academically, and I enjoy working in a culturally diverse setting. Leaving Shanghai was difficult but I stayed with Nord Anglia and transferred my skills and knowledge to BIS Abu Dhabi.

I have always enjoyed learning about new cultures and countries and I frequently travel during my holidays. I have travelled extensively throughout Eastern and South Eastern Asia, throughout Europe and a little through South and Central America.  I have enjoyed living in different cities across the world and my new adventures in Abu Dhabi haven't disappointed. I also really love to read, although I usually have more time for this during holidays. I had an interest in swing dancing with a few of my friends in Shanghai, although I developed this more for the fun and social aspect than for accuracy. Most of all, I enjoy spending time with my nearest and dearest friends and family.  I make a big effort to stay in touch with those who are far away,  and made many new friends in Abu Dhabi.
