Prior to moving to Abu Dhabi I have worked for 2 years as a Year 1 teacher in a school just outside of Manchester, England. I have very much enjoyed being part of lots of new changes within the school and transforming Year 1 classes into a full Year 1 unit very much based on active learning opportunities throughout the curriculum. Prior to working in Year 1, I have also worked in a day nursery and was a student teacher in both Year 1, Year 3 and Year 5 in a variety of different schools in England. My previous experiences have allowed me to appreciate the importance of active learning within education, something which BIS Abu Dhabi also advocate.
Previously, I have spent a few months travelling in New Zealand and exploring other cultures around the world, making my decision to explore Abu Dhabi a very easy and exciting one! Back home I started to have guitar lessons and will continue to develop this further.
Upon seeking employment in Abu Dhabi, I was really drawn to the fact that the British International School commits to being a family community, which I feel is comforting for both staff and students arriving in Abu Dhabi.
The British International School share similar values to myself in the way the school is committed to ensuring children develop academically, personally, socially and emotionally, and the belief that there are no limits to this learning. Throughout the many different schools I have worked in, I have always planned, taught and assessed with the children’s needs and interests placed at the heart of the curriculum; something that the British International school prides themselves on prioritising to ensure that learning is personalised and all children feel successful. The school is truly International therefore exposing the children to many cultural differences to become global, well-rounded citizens, something that I am proud to be a part of!
