I studied History and English Literature at The University of Leeds in England, as a way of delving deeper into the relationships between texts and their social and historical cultures. Once I finished my degree, I spent the summer working for a children’s summer camp in America, where I coached children in a wide range of extra-curricular activities including Art and Sports. I then went on to organising School Ski Trips in the French Alps. Both of these experiences consolidated for me a desire to have a career teaching children and to share my love of learning with them. I went on to complete my PGCE at St Mary’s University in London.
Once I graduated, I taught Year 1 in England for three years, in two wonderful State and Independent schools in Greater London. Eventually, I decided to pursue my life-long ambition to teach abroad and moved to an International School in Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam, where I taught for three years. I had heard of the excellent reputation that BIS Abu Dhabi had for innovative teaching and learning and outstanding professional development for teachers. I was inspired by everything I learned about BIS Abu Dhabi and I decided to take the next step in my career journey here as a Year 2 Teacher.
I love travel and experiencing new cultures and trying lots of local food when I visit somewhere new. I also love the outdoors and enjoy spending time in nature, especially the beach or mountains! I was very excited to move to Abu Dhabi to enjoy the beautiful beaches and outdoor lifestyle here. Lots of my hobbies take me outside when possible, like rock-climbing, scuba diving, sailing and skiing. I enjoy sharing these experiences with my classes, and throughout my career I have introduced lots of extra-curricular activities that involve outdoor sports. I am certainly not the most skilled in any of these activities and I think I am a good example to children that everyone can have fun, keep fit and try new activities!
