Karen Poulton

Computing and Psychology Teacher

After graduating with a degree in Psychosocial Studies with IT, Mrs Poulton pursued a PGCE in IT at Kings’ College London.

Following my studies, I taught the subject in a variety of schools in London and my home town of Brighton – at the same time watching it morph from IT to ICT.

After a year living and working in Australia, my new husband and I secured teaching positions at Tanglin Trust School in Singapore. Having had our eyes opened as to what an amazing experience teaching overseas can be, our two small children accompanied us as we taught in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Having taken a career break to look after our now three young children I taught at an after school code club; an experience which excited me and really wetted my appetite for a return to main school teaching.  I am really enjoying being back in the classroom teaching Computing and Psychology.

With three children I have very limited free time but I continue to run and have returned to yoga, and will hopefully learn the piano whilst at BIS Abu Dhabi!  My children love being able to do more swimming and have joined some of the fantastic after school clubs on offer.  I am also very much enjoying the cultural experience of sampling the sights, sounds and food of the Middle East.
