After three highly enjoyable years working as an EFL teacher in Spain, I returned to my hometown of London, where I spent two years as a library assistant in a Sixth Form college, supporting students with research, academic writing and referencing skills. A combination of a desire to teach, hardship and tiredness from London commuting, and a wife from the North East subsequently led me to Newcastle Upon Tyne to complete my PGCE in English with Drama at Newcastle University.
Following qualification, I secured a post teaching English, Drama and Media Studies at Whitley Bay High School in North Tyneside – an outstanding and consistently high-achieving school, where I spent three fantastic years. However, the pull of living abroad again was too strong, and so my wife and I made the decision to move to Abu Dhabi in 2011. Following three months at BIS Abu Dhabi covering a member of the English department’s maternity leave, I worked briefly as an advisor for Nord Anglia in an ADEC school – an interesting and culturally enriching experience – before returning to BIS Abu Dhabi in 2012.
I have had the good fortune to have already witnessed and been part of many changes on the school's journey of improvement.
