I graduated from the University of Ulster with BA Honours in Youth and Community Work and have worked with young people for over thirty years supporting their social and emotional well-being in a range of Non-Government organizations (NGO’s) and educational establishments within the UK and internationally.

I have been instrumental in shaping legislation within Scotland to support specific vulnerable young people and have been interviewed about my pioneering work with specific groups on National Television. In addition, I have been involved in national research and provided training to professionals to assist their work with young people both with the UK and internationally.

Within the UK, I worked in many different settings offering support to our most vulnerable and socially isolated young people. This work focused on counselling, group therapy and behavior modification.  I have also provided mentoring and guidance to newly qualified staff and worked closely with Dundee University to support their final year Community Education graduates.

Before joining The British International School of Abu Dhabi, I worked in two excellent International IB Schools in Egypt and Oman and during this time I set up and helped develop the School Counselling Service.

I was born in Ireland but moved to Scotland 27 years ago with my husband’s work when we married. As a family, we moved to Egypt in 2004 and both our daughters had the opportunity to experience international education. International education helped shape their decisions in life and offered them unique learning opportunities as well as lifelong international friendships. They have now graduated and are back in Scotland pursuing their own careers in Law and Nursing. Outside of work I enjoy travel, reading, beach life, spending time with family and friends and walking our lovely Cocker spaniel.

I am passionate about students’ emotional health and believe all students should have access to counselling within the academic setting. I am delighted that British International School Abu Dhabi are fortunate to be able to provide that service to our students.
