Rebecca C

English / EAL Teacher

Ms Carswell joined the school in 2014 as an EAL Specialist, with 7 years experience teaching EAL in Abu Dhabi and abroad.

I have had the opportunity to teach in the UK and abroad (Japan and the UAE) and I have taught all ages and abilities to children and adults from all over the world. I am very interested in education and take every opportunity to learn and develop professionally. In 2012, I published an action research paper with CfBT/ ADEC about increasing literacy in EAL students.

I love the EAL field because I believe it provides students with the opportunity to learn highly valuable language, culture and life skills that they will be able to use in travel, higher education and in their future careers.

I have been teaching English in a local government school here in Abu Dhabi for three years already.  This wonderful opportunity has allowed me to gain knowledge and an appreciation of local language and culture. I came to The British International School Abu Dhabi for a new opportunity and to experience an international school setting. Needless to say, I am very excited for the upcoming school year!

I am a kind and easy-going person who tries to see life in the grand scheme of things. I love traveling, learning, and trying new things. Before I was a teacher, I worked in the Canadian forestry industry and therefore have a sincere interest in nature and the outdoors. I aspire to continue my career as an international teacher for the foreseeable future and see the world as I go!
