After leaving school I studied Fine Arts and upon completing my studies in South Africa I went on to start my own art school called KreativKidz for children from the ages of 4 to 18 years old.

I left South Africa in 2004 and started working in a private school in the United Kingdom. I took on the role as Art Specialist and soon I was made head of the art department. I started KreativKidz again and soon the Art School was working with over 50 children from the ages of 4 to 18 years old.  I worked in the Foundation Stage alongside being the art specialist developing creative skills in young children and working towards enabling a creative environment for young children to learn in.

I completed my degree in Bachelor of Elementary Education at Wesleyan University, Philippines in 2003. After a year of passing the Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET), I had the opportunity to work and deal with the children from ages 7 to 8 years old in a private school. After working for four years in private school, I decided to take a permanent position in a government school, where I spent another four years in Year 5 as a Maths teacher. I have been in NAISAK for 3 years now and it’s been a challenging experience as I have taught Year 1 and Foundation 2 and I am currently teaching Foundation 1 students.

My name is Helen Lewis and I have been living in Doha for almost three years with my husband. Qatar has given us amazing opportunities, we love the culture and the lifestyle here. I come from a small town in the UK called Swansea which has many beautiful beaches. It is often raining in Wales where Swansea is located, so I particularly enjoy living in the sunshine and making the most of the warmer climate.

My career in education began when I joined Pride Kids Academic Pre-school in South Africa as a Teaching Assistant in 2008. After working at the Pre-school, I decided to further my career in teaching, and began a four-year Bachelor Degree in Education (BeD, Foundation Phase), which I completed through the University of South Africa in 2013.

Last year I taught a Year 3 class here at NAISAK. This year I have moved to Foundation Stage 2 and am very much looking forward to the year ahead. This is my fourth year of teaching, two of which I completed in the U.K.  I am part way through a Masters in Education that I am completing through the University of Nottingham. I am looking forward to completing this and ensuring my teaching practice continues to improve through continual learning.

I graduated at Wesleyan University, Philippines with a Bachelor Degree in April 2003. My first teaching experience was in Montessori School of Jaen, Inc. as a Year 2 Teacher. I worked as a class teacher for three years before I was promoted to Head Teacher of the Grade School Department, as well as a Year 6 teacher. I worked in these positions until November 2012. Being given the opportunity to work in Qatar at such a wonderful school was a great chance to further develop my teaching and my knowledge in the world of education.
