Since graduating from University in Bristol in 2009, I have been incredibly blessed to have had a wealth of experiences both professionally and personally from: working in excellent schools, to volunteering internationally in India and travelling to some amazing destinations around the world. Before moving to Qatar to teach at NAISAK in January 2016, I worked for over 2 years at a school in North Somerset on the outskirts of Bristol where I primarily taught in Year 6. During my time working in North Somerset, I was Literacy Coordinator and Upper Key Stage 2 Leader; these roles provided me with excellent opportunities to develop professionally and gain confidence in myself as a teacher. Through my teacher training, working as a full time class teacher, and supply work in between, I gained invaluable experience of teaching every year group from Reception up to Year 6 as well as picking up many other skills and ideas.
Having grown up with both of my parents being teachers, I have always aspired to follow in their footsteps and have been lucky enough for this dream to come true. I am passionate about education and lifelong learning and hope to create an environment within my own classroom that encourages children to investigate and explore through a variety of different engaging lessons and activities. Within my classroom I have high expectations of children and believe that this helps them to achieve the very highest level possible across every area of the curriculum. As well as ensuring that children work hard to achieve their very best academically, I strongly believe that children learn best when it is fun, hands-on and allows them to have input into what they are learning. Wherever possible, I aim to make learning exciting and engaging by making learning relevant by incorporating children’s own ideas and interests.
I am a strong believer that travelling and living abroad opens your eyes to many new and exciting opportunities also making you understand others on a deeper level. Although I have only been living in Qatar since January 2016, moving abroad to join the NAISAK team is one of the best decisions I ever made. Last year was an exciting opportunity for me to get to know the school better as my role allowed me to work with students right across the Primary Stage teaching Literacy, Numeracy as well as working within the ALN department supporting groups. Although I had a great year and gained valuable experiences, I am thoroughly excited about the coming year working in Year 6. I am very much looking forward to working with students across Year 6 and helping them prepare for their move to the Secondary department at the end of the school year.
I cannot wait for the next year and hope that I am able to continue making a positive impact on the children, staff and parents through exciting learning opportunities, enthusiasm and encouraging children to reach for the stars. I am very excited to continue being involved in the life of the school and cannot wait to start supporting the Yoga and Wellbeing ECA – let the relaxation commence! I look forward to seeing what the future holds at NAISAK and am excited to learn even more about the school, Qatar’s wonderful culture and getting to know you all over the coming months. If you ever have a question or would simply like to pop in, please come and find me as my door is always open.
