Rhys Ravey

I have a bachelor of science degree in Geology and Geography from the University of Auckland, New Zealand.  My wife and I moved to Qatar in 2011 and I began working as a Learning Assistant that year.  I completed a Postgraduate certificate in Education via correspondence at the University of Sunderland in 2013 and began working as a Year 6 teacher at Compass International School, Al Khor (now Nord Anglia International School Al Khor) soon afterwards.  In 2014, I moved into Year 4 and have remained here since.

I became a father for the first time last year and most of my time is now spent with my son.  In my rare moments of free time, I love to play football, golf and guitar.

The idea of being involved in building and developing a new school intrigued me before I came to work at NAISAK and still motivates me on a daily basis.  New ideas to improve learning are implemented frequently and I feel that I am always learning new things and that I have to learn more about the art of teaching to continue to work here.  I feel that this challenging environment benefits me greatly as a teacher and I become a better teacher by being part of it.  The melange of teachers, and students, from around the world, in and international environment, also opens my eyes to new ideas and cultures.

I look forward to being part of the Year 4 and Primary teams this year and hope to further develop and improve my teaching by working with other teachers.  I also hope to help others in their own development too in a similar way.

I have very high expectations for my students for all facets of school life.  I endeavour to model these expectations and values as a teacher and hope to inspire and motivate my students to behave in a similar way.

I will try to communicate clearly and effectively with parents through all means of communication.  I will encourage parents to communicate their own feelings at every opportunity.  I will try to incorporate parents into the student’s learning through home learning activities and through suggestions at parent teacher meetings throughout the year.
