    Corryn McBean

I graduated from Nottingham Trent University in 2010 with a 2:1 BA (hons) in English Literature. After completing my degree, I went on to train at the University of Nottingham on the GTP course in Secondary English teaching and completed the course with a PGCE. My training has equipped me with the necessary skills and knowledge in pedagogy to teach and support a diverse range of students.

I have worked in inner city schools in Nottingham in the UK across the Key Stage 3, 4 and 5 curricula. Working in city schools means that I have worked with students from a broad spectrum of social and cultural backgrounds, therefore further enriching my understanding of young people.

    Jennifer Compton

I have been an English teacher based in East London for six years, and a deputy head of English and Key Stage 4 coordinator for two and a half.  Working in two East London comprehensives has enabled me to work with children with a range of abilities and from a variety of backgrounds. Both schools provided me with the opportunity to teach Media and Film Studies, and in my first school I was one of two members of staff responsible for setting up and offering A Level Film Studies.

My education was delivered through DESS and Doha College, before moving to the UK to complete a Degree and secondary teaching qualification through the University of Hertfordshire. I am also an RYA-certified sailing instructor. I ran the Regatta Sailing Academy in Doha for a year after finishing school, and have worked between training opportunities for Caterham car designing and producing specialised car parts, as well as for the Association of Science Teachers in the UK.

My experience as a teacher has taken me through the ranks at Goffs School in England, where we had an excellent team, always striving to be the best performing school in the county, as well as constantly giving students opportunities to aspire to achieve great things after formal education has finished. Our department finished in my last year with outstanding results, putting us in the top 4% nationwide for results based on value added performance of students.

You can tear down a piece of paper to the smallest possible piece but still not see what it is actually made of. What I love about Chemistry is that the sense of discovery never ends. And NAISAK provides the perfect environment for this. I am on my third year at NAISAK and I have felt motivated and valued from the beginning of my time here, since September 2014. I completed my graduation in Chemistry, Botany and Zoology. Having then completed my Masters in Organic Chemistry, as a young student, I began pouring my knowledge into mini-experiments in the kitchen and garden. My career in education began when I first moved to Qatar 20 years ago. Ever since, my passion for teaching has grown and led me to complete my PGCE in Secondary Education from Sunderland University, UK.

After completing a high school baccalaureate, I chose to pursue a degree in Business, Finance and Customs as I felt it would offer me the opportunity to work in a variety of fields. After a few years in the business world (civil and military), I arrived in the educational arena in Qatar. It was a revelation.

I started in the Student Affairs department at a boarding school and looked after all aspects of students’ lives outside of their academic lessons. The rapport with the students, their families and their teachers, as well as supporting them when faced with obstacles, motivated me to explore further opportunities within the field of education and become a full-time teacher. I therefore decided to resume my studies to seek further qualifications in Humanities, Psychology and Counseling, and EAL to strengthen my professional practice. I am now embarking on an iPGCE course with a UK university and starting an exciting third year at NAISAK as a Key Stage 3 and 4 Humanities teacher.
