I graduated from Nottingham Trent University in 2010 with a 2:1 BA (hons) in English Literature. After completing my degree, I went on to train at the University of Nottingham on the GTP course in Secondary English teaching and completed the course with a PGCE. My training has equipped me with the necessary skills and knowledge in pedagogy to teach and support a diverse range of students.
I have worked in inner city schools in Nottingham in the UK across the Key Stage 3, 4 and 5 curricula. Working in city schools means that I have worked with students from a broad spectrum of social and cultural backgrounds, therefore further enriching my understanding of young people.
NAISAK’s core values appeal to my own teaching philosophy and I feel that working here allows me to continue to develop my teaching practice and deliver outstanding and engaging lessons to ensure that students are both engaged and challenged. I have thoroughly enjoyed my first year of teaching in an emerging Secondary team and seeing the children’s dedication and drive towards success take shape.
I am truly passionate about literature and I hope to ignite the same excitement and enthusiasm in my students. Studying literature is not purely about reading; it is also about exploring our creativity through narrative writing, poetry and even performance. As a member of the NAISAK team, it is my responsibility to enrich the students’ school experience, helping them to explore and develop their English language skills.
I believe in fostering creativity and critical thinking both in and out of the classroom. By creating a friendly and welcoming atmosphere, and one where students feel valued and encouraged, I hope to nurture a culture of ambition and hard work in my students.
