PE Teacher

I studied Sport, Physical Education and Coaching Science at the University of Birmingham where I graduated with first class honours, and following this, I completed my PGCE at the West Midlands Consortium and graduated as an ‘outstanding’ teacher. Since the age of fourteen, I knew I wanted to become a PE teacher as I have always had a passion for taking part in and following a variety of sports; my main sport now being netball that I play three times a week. Staying fit and healthy is also another personal interest of mine.

Growing up as the oldest of four siblings taught me to become responsible, driven and also competitive due to the natural environment of growing up in a large family. I am loyal, committed and compassionate as an individual, and endeavour to develop all of the above characteristics in the young people whom I teach along their journey to becoming adults of the future.

I have been teaching in England for five years since graduating and I am currently mid-way through completing a Master’s degree in Education. I have had the opportunity to work as part of a very supportive team at my previous school in Wolverhampton, where I gained extra responsibilities such as Lead Teacher of A-Level PE, acting second in department, and most recently, Quality First Teaching mentor where I was responsible for improving the quality of Teaching and Learning across the whole school. Furthermore, I was responsible for narrowing the gap between boys’ and girls’ attainment across all year groups. I love to follow and play sports so, as a result of having an interest in so many different sports, I am also a qualified coach in seven different sports including football, cheerleading, trampolining and netball.

Moving to Qatar was a decision based on both personal and professional reasons, but having always had ‘itchy feet’, I look forward to having the opportunity to be able to travel to parts of the world that may have been more difficult to reach from England in my spare time.

I have always had a highly regarded opinion of NAISAK and the Nord Anglia philosophy of education since I was introduced to it. I am looking forward to being part of a strong and supportive learning community that coaches its staff and students into achieving their full potential. Furthermore, I look forward to being able to contribute towards and further develop the PE department in their sporting successes so far, and to introducing sporting opportunities for NAISAK parents also.

I am from a small town in the Midlands in England and am the oldest of four sisters. Coming from a large family has developed the competitive side of me, and the drive to succeed and always be the best I can be. Furthermore, I have grown up being a role model, to not only my three younger sisters but also to my five younger cousins. My main hobbies are playing netball, staying fit, and socialising with friends and family. I currently play netball three times a week, but would happily play every day if I could as I love the sport itself and working within a close-knit team. I also enjoy the social scene that comes with team sport. I have travelled to and worked in a few exotic places, but I would really like the chance to travel and see more of the world over the next few years.

Working at NAISAK will be different to all of the other places I have worked at because I will be embarking on a new professional challenge in working at my first international school. I have worked with students from many different cultures and backgrounds, but nothing like this! This opportunity comes with the chance to develop new relationships with students, staff and parents. Furthermore, I am looking forward to experiencing and gaining more insight into the Arabic culture and the Middle-Eastern way of living first hand from the students I will be working with; learning from my students has always fascinated me.

I am also looking forward to having a bit more leisure time, and what better place to enjoy it than in the middle of the desert! This will hopefully allow me to watch more live sports; of which there are loads on offer in Qatar. Also, I enjoy being creative and doing some craft work, with more free time hopefully this is something I can pursue as of September.
