Performing Arts Leader

I completed my BMus Performance in Opera in 1996. In 1997, I received my PGCE Cum Laude and in 2004 I completed my BEd Honours degree in Educational Management, Systems and Law. To support my degree in Opera singing, I also finished my Performers Licentiate in Singing – Cum Laude at UNISA.

I have experience as Head of Department in the UK, Botswana, India and Qatar, within the PYP/MYP and IGCSE education systems.

I have had two most personal music experiences. The first one was when I lived in India (Pune) in 2006. I went to a concert by a tour group from the USA and they invited me to perform impromptu “Voi Che Sapete” from Figaro. The second one was when I performed for the royal family of Qatar at the Diplomatic Club in 2011.

My passion for teaching students the skills and pleasures of listening to Music is what motivates me to get up every morning. I like doing aerobics, reading and listening to music. Charlize Theron was my roommate in South Africa at National School of the Arts in Johannesburg. We have a very tight friendship group and keeping in touch with friends near and far is very important to me.

The staff, both teaching and non-teaching, the atmosphere and the positive energy that is so vibrant in the school make me want to go to school every day. When I saw the following words on the school’s website: “I genuinely enjoy coming to school each day and my goal is to ensure that every child and staff member also enjoy coming to school”, I decided that this school was the place for me.

My son started his school career at NAISAK when he was four years old, and since his very first day, he has been excited to go to school every morning. I find myself truly blessed to work in such a cheerful environment. I am a self-starter with creative concepts, and I would like to take ‘The Crown Playhouse’ to a higher level this year through our excellent productions. This year, I would like to foster and support effective teaching and learning by providing professional leadership in the Performing Arts team. I plan to manage the use of resources and act as a model of professional practice at all times. I would also like the school choir to become one of the school’s key features, with more opportunities to perform and be ambassadors of the school.

Pride in the badge, focus and heart are the three underlying values that all students and staff members at NAISAK believe in. If I can bring that out in all of my lessons, I believe that I will help every student to develop into a global citizen.
