In 2007 I qualified from a British university as a Primary Teacher, specialising in Early Years. I started my career in a nursery school and then worked for 4 years in a small primary school. Whilst I was there I taught Year 3 and then Year 1, as well as coordinating the art and music at the school. I love teaching and helping to engage and develop young children.
The school wasn’t far from my hometown and I’d never really moved too far from home. I loved travelling and experiencing new cultures, so I found a way to enjoy both my passions together at the same time, in the same place. I was really excited to move to a new country. In 2011 I moved to Bangkok to work at St Andrews International School Bangkok and I’ve been here ever since. I initially worked in Year 2 and then moved on to teach Year 3. I have returned to teaching Year 1, and I also coordinate Numeracy across the Primary School.
I’ve always enjoyed swimming, even from an early age when I was referred to as the family’s 'water baby'. Living somewhere with a swimming pool really suits me; it’s far too cold for outdoor pools in England.
Since moving to Bangkok I have taken up playing tennis. I’m still not very good but my coach says I’m always improving. I have enjoyed learning something new and developing a new skill.
My biggest hobby is reading. Talk to me at any point in the year, I’ll be part-way through a book.
St. Andrews is a fantastic school to work at. The children are eager to learn and have such great aspirations for themselves. You can tell this comes from the support and encouragement they receive at home as well as in school. All the staff were very welcoming when I joined and always happy to help. The school has a great relationship with its parents and I have never known a school to work so closely and openly with the whole community.
