After obtaining my Bachelor of Arts degree with Qualified Teaching Status and 5 years of working in schools in the UK, I took the decision to travel to various countries around the world for a year. After that I applied for jobs in Thailand. That was in 2001 and I have been at St. Andrews ever since. At the time the school was about 200 students strong. I have seen it grow to an impressive 900+ students and it is due to grow again. I am very proud to have been part of this community and I have seen many students grow up through the school.
I have held various roles here at St. Andrews, including Chairman of TISAC, House Leader and more recently the role of Year Leader, which next year will see over 80 students in the year group. I am Under 11’s football coach for the school and also coach FOBISIA students and take them to various events around Southeast Asia.
Bringing up my young family (two daughters, Ella (8) and Mabel (5)) with my wife Ms. Meg (Foundation Stage Leader) takes up a lot of my time. I also play drums in a band with fellow colleagues and friends in various venues around the city in a growing Bangkok music scene. I love to play and participate in various sports including tennis, swimming and football. I still have a love of travel and have travelled to most parts of Thailand over the years. I have also been to most Southeast Asian countries. Two highlights of my travel experiences were trips to Tibet and Japan. Amazing!
Speaking as a teacher and a parent at St. Andrews, I like the sense of community the school offers. The students are all on one site, Nursery to Year 13, which creates a family environment. Everyone can feel part of this school and have the opportunity to be involved in something they love to do whether it be drama, sport or playing in a rock band. Every student in my class and department loves coming to the school to learn and this positive attitude comes from that sense of belonging that St. Andrews offers.
“Mr. Steve is a great teacher and teaches us a lot of fun stuff like Space and all about the Indus Valley. I liked our Robot Day the best!”
“Mr Steve is an awesome teacher! Every time I don’t understand something, he finds a way to explain it in a way that I can.”
