I am really delighted to be a part of St. Andrews International School Bangkok. I believe that this school welcomes all learners with open arms, providing a safe and happy environment, where students can flourish to be the best that they can possibly be. The school’s mission statement initially drew me in, and I am happy to report that this is exactly how the school is: happy, supportive and inclusive.
Professionally I have spent most of my career teaching internationally. I have returned to Bangkok after spending two years teaching in Bogota, Colombia from 2015-2017. Before this I spent 3 years, 2012- 2015, teaching here in Bangkok. I have also taught in Japan and Vietnam.
Personally I love travelling and teaching internationally, experiencing the rich array of diverse cultures, and appreciating Mother Nature’s expansive and diverse tapestry. My love of English literature and culture led me to study a double degree (Honours) in English and Sociology, and then a masters in English Literature. Actually through world literature, I became an international traveller, without ever leaving my home country, Ireland.
It was in fact Marguerite Duras’s The Lover that planted this seed of curiosity for, and appreciation of, South Asian culture, and what probably led me on my first adventure travelling to Thailand more than a decade ago. Little did I know then that fast forward 16 years, I would be entering my fourth year living and teaching in Bangkok. It is my privilege to be teaching, in this beautiful country, to such an interesting range of bright and happy international students.
