Staff Profiles: Laura Wilkinson

Laura Wilkinson

Year 5 Teacher (Class 5L) & Year 5 Leader

In 2002, I graduated from St. Martin’s College in Ambleside, now University of Cumbria, with a BA Honours degree in Primary Education. My specialism was in Early Years Education, which gave me a full insight into how children grow and develop from birth, both physically and academically. I completed my first year of teaching at St. James’ Church of England School in Barrow-in-Furness, England, teaching Year 3. I then moved to Cambridge Primary School, also in Barrow, where I stayed until 2013. During that time I taught Years 3 to 6 and took on a range of managerial roles including Head of Art, Display Coordinator and Head of Numeracy.

In 2012, my partner and I decided to take a year out of work to travel. We visited 10 countries in total and thoroughly enjoyed experiencing different countries and cultures and meeting so many interesting people from all walks of life. After returning to work in England, we realised that we wanted to experience working abroad and after spending a lot of time in Bangkok, we decided that that was the place for us.

During my spare time, I enjoy cooking, especially baking, and love to try out new recipes. To relax I like to read or watch a good film. I try to keep fit by doing yoga and Zumba, which is great fun. I love to explore new places, experience different cultures and try local foods.

St. Andrews is a great place to work. I feel very lucky to be part of such a fun and hard-working team and enjoy coming to work and spending time with both students and staff. I think the school has a very relaxed atmosphere and the children are all very happy, which personally I feel is extremely important. It is a real pleasure to be here!
