Letter to the Queen of the United Kingdom

Reception has been a hive of activity over the last few weeks, learning all about castles, Princes and Princesses.

  • Rec Castle Wow Day
  • Reception building castle
  • Reception building castle
  • Reception Castle

To kick start our topic we held a special castle day banquet in which the children come in dressed as a member of royalty. Together the whole of Reception had a fun filled day of castle building, crown making and royal dancing. Over the next few weeks we looked at castles and life in castles in more detail.

The children worked in groups to develop plans to construct castles using old boxes and materials from the classroom. We spent time learning how to bow and curtsy like royalty and even learned to waltz to wonderful Disney princess music.

Towards the end of our topic we learned that in some countries they have real kings and queens. That they are not just in fairy stories. Therefore we talked about how someone becomes a King or Queen and watched some real and Disney coronations.

We then wrote a letter to the Queen of the United Kingdom asking her some questions and telling her all about the amazing things we have learned. Let’s hope she will reply! Keep your fingers crossed!
