Since graduating, I have been working in upper KS2 in an inner city school in Birmingham. Here I work with children from all different backgrounds, all of whom speak English as their second language. It was here that I was given the opportunity to develop my passion for creating cross-curricular lessons and was soon appointed Creative Curriculum leader, in which I successfully led and managed a team of teachers in adapting the curriculum to make it as cross-curricular as possible.
My partner and I decided to move to Beijing as we wanted to experience teaching in a new and vibrant location. We have always wanted to live outside of the UK and felt that Beijing offered such a diverse mix of history and culture. When I saw a position available at the British School of Beijing, Sanlitun I jumped at the chance of becoming part of the team due to its family feel, which I am already used to in England. I was also excited due to the approach to teaching at BSB Sanlitun, which is done in a ‘creative and cross curricular way.’ It is through this approach that I feel children of all abilities can make excellent progress in their learning, as children are able to make links between all aspects of the curriculum.
