I completed my four-year Bachelor of Arts, Honors program at York University in Toronto, Canada before I completed my Bachelor of Education at Tyndale University College. I achieved my Bachelor of Arts degree, with Initial Teacher Training, in Primary Education in 2009. I then began my career as a Year 2 teacher at Norbury Manor Primary in Croydon. During this time I became a P.E. coordinator; running sports days and charity events. I also spent time as a literacy coordinator at a secondary school in Kent, developing a project to improve phonics understanding, reading and writing. I have also taught across both key stages through long term and daily supply work. I believe it is important to inspire pupils through interactive, real life learning experiences and I enjoy developing confident, happy lifelong learners.

In 2003 I completed my Primary PGCE at St Mary’s University Strawberry Hill in London. I decided to return back to my home in Co Derry Ireland on completion and taught a Year 1 class in Belfast. During that time my eyes were opened to the different learning needs of each child in my class and taught me how to plan for these needs. I wanted to further my knowledge of teaching strategies for pupils with challenges in language and communication and cognitive developmental ability so I completed a MEd at Queens University Belfast and taught in a Special School.

In 2007 I completed my degree in Early Childhood Studies and Psychology. From there I travelled to South Africa to work with a charity to help disadvantaged children learn to read. It was due to this experience that I decided to train to be a teacher with the ultimate goal of teaching abroad. I moved to London to study for my Post Graduate Certificate in Education, which I completed in 2009. I initially worked as a supply teacher before working at a school in East London for 3 years. During this time I became the reading coordinator and worked with the reading charity in South Africa, getting my school involved in fundraising and charity events, promoting a love for reading.

Whilst studying a Business degree in the UK, I started volunteering in local schools as a teaching assistant, working with children and mentoring older pupils in secondary schools. This led me to want to follow a path into teaching. After gaining my PGCE qualification at Kingston University, I went on to teach at a primary school in South London. There I taught Year 4 for three years, was Maths Coordinator and took a Middle Leaders course.
