Recently, I have spent three years as a class teacher at a large inner-city London Primary School. My decision to stay in London after University was made because I loved working in a diverse, multicultural setting. I have been a class teacher for both Year 3 and Year 5 classes, working with children who have a range of abilities and who originate from different backgrounds. While working in London, I became involved in a Mathematics working party to develop the teaching of problem solving and understanding in Maths lessons. I have also taken on greater responsibilities as an Art and Design Technology leader. This role has involved establishing an Art and DT curriculum for a school, participating in National competitions, planning extra-curricular trips and working towards the Primary Education ‘Artsmark’ award.
My decision to teach abroad will combine my love for teaching with my love for travel. After spending most of my holidays travelling to different counties in Asia, I decided to start looking for teaching opportunities abroad. When I came across The British School of Beijing, Sanlitun I knew this was where I wanted to continue my teaching career, alongside likeminded, enthusiastic educators. Although I have never been to China before, I am very excited for the all of the adventures that it will bring.
When I am not teaching I love going out in London to see the sights, one of my favourite things to do is watch plays and musicals. At home I enjoy painting, crafts and sewing - I have even made a few of my own clothes.
