I wanted to further my knowledge of teaching strategies for pupils with challenges in language and communication and cognitive developmental ability so I completed a MEd at Queens University Belfast and taught in a Special School. In 2012 I was seconded out to the Department of Education N.I. I took up the position of Early Years Advisory Teacher. This role provided me with the opportunity to work with young children and deliver early intervention, support and capacity building sessions for parents and teachers. This was a very important stage of my career as I gained immense experience in writing IEP’s and evaluating pupil progress. I returned to the classroom in 2014 and taught Key Stage 1 for two years and was English Co-ordinator. Since April 2016, I worked at the Dept. of Education with the Pre School Service until my big move to Beijing.
I am living in Beijing with my husband and three young children. I feel very lucky to be able to offer my children this opportunity to live in and experience such an enriching and culturally diverse country. I hope that they will gain an awareness and respect for the different cultures and make life-long friends during our time in Beijing.
This year I have been very fortunate to have been given the opportunity to participate in the Nord Anglia Middle Leadership Programme. This programme is a year long course which focuses on the skills required to be a successful leader and to deepen understanding of Nord Anglia policies and philosophies. I am thoroughly enjoying it and feel my professional development has increased in many ways this year.
