I began my teacher training in 2006 at Oxford Brookes University. After graduating in 2007, I began my teaching career as an NQT in a rural Secondary School called The Downs School in Compton, Newbury. I stayed at The Downs School for 5 years before making the decision to move to China. I worked at The British School of Guangzhou from 2012 to 2015 and moved up to Beijing in the Summer of 2015 with my husband, David Laird. I decided to move to China because I always wanted to work abroad. I wanted change, an adventure, and being a Geographer, I wanted to see more of the world. BSG and BSB have given me this opportunity.
My main hobby is keeping fit, especially by running. Before I came to China I enjoyed competing in events around Oxfordshire. I try to keep up my running but it can be difficult with the heat. I have joined a gym to keep it up on the treadmill but I’m not as motivated as I am outside. I also love to read and listen to music.
Finally I love to travel and see new places. Since coming to China I have been to Hong Kong, Japan, Malaysia, Thailand, UAE, USA, Canada, Singapore, Philippines, New Zealand and other parts of China such as Dali, Yangshou and Shanghai. My personal aspiration is to continue to improve as a teacher and take every opportunity to help me to be better than I am now.
