Portable Magic - Scottish National Poet brings her magic to life!

Scottish National Poet Liz Lochhead was the special guest in the second week of BSB's "Portable Magic" - The Festival of Books and Big Ideas.

Students were given an insight into the creative process of poetry during Ms Lochhead's presentation in the theatre and a special classroom workshop.

Having been a successful poet for more than 25 years, Ms Lochhead has a wealth of experience to give to students and has been presenting literature workshops at schools around the world.

She was one of three special presenters during BSB's Portable Magic - the Festival of Books and Big Ideas. The first was Paul Ham, an author and historian, who presented his insights on story-telling to a captivated audience on Monday last week. On the Wednesday, author and illustrator Gabrielle Wang inspired students with her ability to bring a story to life in pictures during her special illustration workshops.

Other highlights of the Festival have included the very fun “Drop Everything and Read”. Twice a day during the past week, special announcements by the Head of Secondary Mr Lewis were made during lessons signalling the start of 10 minutes of silent reading.

Students also enjoyed impromtu performances from fellow students, reciting famous works such as Romeo and Juliet and Alice in Wonderland.
