U11 (Primary) Handball will be holding their 2nd Annual Invite at BSB this coming Wednesday 14th January. This year we have expanded this to include Y3 in addition to Y4/5/6. Overall BSB will have just under 100 students participating in this year’s invite with a total of 14 teams for BSB Shunyi.  In total 32 teams from 4 Beijing international schools will be participating. The tournament starts at 10AM with the boys playing in the Sports Dome and the girls play in the main Gym. After this invitational, Season 2 Handball will be finished for Y3/4 and for those students who did not make the Y5/6 ISAC squads. The Y5/6 or U10/U11 ISAC teams will continue training until their ISAC tournaments. The U10 ISAC tournament at DSP is scheduled for Saturday 24th January. The U11 ISAC tournament at DSP is scheduled for Saturday 14th March. Season 3 T-ball for U11/U9 will begin on Tuesday March 17th. Primary FOBISIA Try-outs are tentatively scheduled to being on Monday 16th March. Try-out schedule will be published after the Chinese New Year break.

Lastly and something that gives me great pleasure is that BSB will be hosting our first ever Association of International Schools in Asia (AISA) event, the Math Challenge & Leadership Conference from Friday 30th January to Saturday 31st January 2015.

AISA core schools include Korea International School, Senri and Osaka International School, Seoul International School, & Yokohama International School (YIS). Rounding out participating schools with BSB Shunyi for this year’s event will also include Harrow International School Beijing (HISB).

Schools select their top 4 mathematicians and top 4 student leaders to attend this conference annually. As a host school, BSB will have double the number of participants for both the math & leadership events.

The purpose of the math competition is to unite mathematicians from AISA schools to challenge and expand their understanding of mathematics, to engage in friendly completion and to have fun. The leadership conference is a non-competitive, collaborative event that focuses on developing team building skills, sharing common student leadership experiences, and exploring practical ideas, plans and suggestions for promoting school and community spirit to take back to each school.

As we get closer to the ACAMIS/AISA weekends at BSB there will be a great deal more to follow as well as all of the results from the many season ending ISAC tournaments. It’s easy to see there is a lot happening at BSB. Please feel free to send me an email if you have any questions.
