Update from Mr. Jim Hartland

11am

Today, students split into two groups - survival skills and sea kayaking.    The survival group learnt the best ways to prepare, ignite and maintain a fire and built their own - with various levels of success!

The survival group then moved on to looking at filtration systems - how to purify water in the wildness by just using the natural environment. We also examined how to build shelters and use them to protect ourselves from the elements.

Once these skills had been mastered, and lunch cooked, the group headed out into the sea in their kayaks. Using the skills from yesterday's training sessions, everyone managed to keep up with the team leader and navigate properly around the coastline.

Students then headed back to their base camp to prepare their tents and evening meals before having an early night.
