in this past week, 1st to 5th June, students explored the links and career pathways in Science, Technology, Engineering , Arts and Maths during STEAM week.

In Key Stage 3 Maths, Science, Art, DT and IT lessons students have been working on themes to help highlight how these subjects work together.

Students have been working on the following topics:

Year 7 Cars

Year 8 Times

Year 9 Trebuchets

Along side lessons, there have also been a number of activities including -

(Photo #1) 32 Year 7s took a trip to the Beijing Zoo and we will be discussing conservation next week in lessons.

(Photo #2 & 3) A House competition for Year 8, where the students were asked to design and build a timing devise out of recycling that would time 60 seconds. Precisely.  The Romans took all three top places with the winning team achieving 59.59 seconds.

(Photo #4) Some of our Year 9 and 10’s went to primary school to show off their scientific skills by doing science flash mobs! The primary children loved it!!

(Photo #5) The Year 12s had a talk from  Malcolm Dransfield and his colleague on the use of STEAM in the oil industry.

(Photo #6,7,8)  Lunch time clubs took place all week including - making Slime mould, making bath bombs, water rockets, whiz bang chemistry and dissection.

The week will end with a STEAM fair on the Science/DT corridor where pupils will get to try light painting, 3D printing and tower building as well as see demos using liquid nitrogen, whiz bang chemistry and many student led demonstrations.
