Urgent message from BSB Principal about building works near school
I have been informed today that parents are worried about the building works outside school, and have been led to believe that there are NEW high voltage cables being constructed near school. In fact the opposite is true. It is possible that not everyone saw the article I wrote in the last newsletter:
“I am sure many of you will have noticed that there is building work taking place in and around our car park at school. We are delighted to say that this is because the overhead power cables are being moved further away from the school. This is a good thing in itself, but also means that, longer term, we may well be able to expand our outdoor sports and play facilities. There will be some disruption over the next two to three months, including some temporary rerouting of the cables, but the long term benefit to us will be significant.”
I completely understand your worries, so please may I make this clear for parents. There are no ‘new electricity cables’ being constructed, simply replacement ones. As you will see, there are going to be new towers, one of which will be in our car park, but the existing towers will be removed, thus taking the cables much further away from the school. Some parents have become very anxious because of the statement in the notice from the landlord that there will be a new permanent tower. The new tower is only there to support the cables, and the cables will be further away from the school. The existing cables which run across our car park have been regularly checked over the years they have been there, and found to be safe and meeting Government regulations for the distance from school. It is these, existing cables which are being replaced and moved approximately 25m further away from the school buildings, therefore making the environment even safer than it currently is. I have been reliably informed by the construction company and the landlord (please see the letter attached ) that these are not 500kv power lines (as was reported yesterday) but 110kv power lines. We will of course continue to check that this is the case.
Please contact me urgently and personally if you need any further information but please be assured that this is very good news for our school and the ongoing safety of our students.
With best wishes
