Dear Parents and Friends

Wishing you all a very Happy Year of the Monkey! I hope you had a peaceful, relaxing and enjoyable holiday last week – once again, almost by miracle this year, we have returned to beautiful blue skies and the first signs of Spring. Long may it continue!

That does not mean, of course, that we have forgotten about the very poor air we experienced back in December and we are still putting together our plans for further building improvements and building management to be implemented during the course of 2016.

This will be a very short letter from me as we have decided to change the format of our newsletter. The fortnightly newsletter is in a new, easier to read form, and I will write a Principal’s letter in the weeks between the newsletters. We hope this will make the information flow from school a little more consistent and easier to read!

However I did want to write, at the end of a busy first week back, just to recognise the events of today. We have just enjoyed a fantastic day of celebration for the Chinese New Year and Spring Festival. Our Chinese department and Parents’ Association Chinese families have worked together to produce a whole day of exciting events based around a ‘Temple Fair’ in school, with shows of Chinese culture and music continuing throughout the day, culminating in a great showcase of student talent in the theatre during the afternoon. We have so many amazing students in school, and the way they engaged in the day, trying out new things (as well as lots of sugar!) was a joy to watch. And some of those who performed were so brave in trying out new things in front of other students and their parents. My sincere congratulations go to every one of them, and our warmest thanks go to our parents and Chinese teachers who worked super hard to make sure the day was a great success. We plan to do something even grander next year, taking the Temple Fair onto a Saturday so that it can become a real community event. Watch this space!

I look forward to writing at more length next week in the new format ‘Principal’s letters’ but, in the meantime, I wish you an excellent weekend, a very happy Lantern Festival, and many good things as we come towards the end of Spring Festival.

With best wishes

Andy Puttock

Principal
