What a year it has been for BSB Sport. As I look back at the year there really is too many highlights to name just one or even a few. Honestly everything gives me so much pride into what we offer and do for the children at BSB who love their sport. The conclusion of the Sports Year will be the Sports Award Evening & BBQ on Tuesday 14th June at 6PM start in the Theatre (click here for details). As we will announce the 2015-2016 Sportsman & Sportswoman for U19/U14/U11/U9 as well as the Swimmer of the Years for Secondary/Primary/Mini-Bears (Boy/Girl), it is also a celebration of Sport at BSB and the incredible family and program we have created here over these past few years. (see document "2015-2016 Sportsman & Sportswoman and Swimmers of the Year" below).
I have said this before, we are truly blessed to have so much support at school and from everyone who coaches, plays, volunteers, and of course contributes to the many things we do over the year. I particularly want to personally thank the BSB PE Department who through their above the norm work attitude and push to keep offering if and when we have students interested to play sport is the engine that drives this program and without this team really none of this would be possible.
Looking at the year that was sport by the numbers, this year alone we had over 80 teams (712 registered players) and won an incredible 21 Championships either in ISAC/FOBISIA/ACAMIS/BSB Invite Tournaments/Competitions. Click the link below to see "BSB Shunyi Sport Facts 2015-2016".
For every team, Sports Awards are given to the Most Valuable Player (MVP), Most Improved Player (MIP), & Coaches Choice/Players Player (CC-PP) over our 4 Sport Seasons starting in late August and finishing this year with the conclusion of the First ever Mini-FOBISIA squad made up of 14 boys and 14 girls from our Y3 (see document "Mini-FOBISIA Squad name list" below).
Over the academic year we handed out over 244 Trophies which highlighted our Sport Award Winners per Season per Team for MVP/MIP/CC-PP. An addition many of you have also noticed in the stairwell leading to the gym (and down to the Pool) is our “BSB Sports Wall of Fame” which is a permanent honour for the Sport Award winners across the Key Ages and Core Sports for U19/U14/U11 players. But also, our “BSB Sport Wonder Wall” is an annual highlight for all the award winners given the sheer number which is located just at the base of the stairwell to the right of the main reception area. Please do take a look at these areas as I am sure there is someone their you know who has been honoured for their achievements in BSB sport this year or past years (see document "2015-2016 Sport Award Winners for Season 1-4" below).
But sport at BSB is not simple about winning and losing and being honoured as an award winner, it’s about playing sport and having fun doing it. We have created Sport from the grass roots, basing our success or starting point for all things that are sport in curriculum. Sport at BSB begins in PE lessons, and getting students excited and playing a sport no matter a student’s ability level is the true goal of our program. Having said this all students at BSB with the conclusion of a particular unit of study within PE compete in a House Tournament based on their individually assigned House: Norman, Saxon, Viking, Roman. Every students from Reception to Y13 have played in a House Sport competition with close to 80 House events this year alone organized and run by the BSB PE department. House sports mean all BSB students play competitive sport in some form or another either through our House Sport system (see photos above), or through one of the 80+ sport teams who play against schools in Beijing or abroad. Which again means, everyone at BSB plays competitive sport.
Looking ahead at the 2016-2017 academic year, BSB is scheduled to host in addition to our already heavy ISAC/BSB Primary Invite schedule, starting in November the U19 ACAMIS Gold Division Volleyball Championships from November 3rd to 5th. Then the week after ACAMIS for the first time, we host the U15 FOBISIA games with teams arriving on Tuesday 8th November with the games scheduled from 9th to 11th November. Also, note in addition to the U15 FOBISIA games, BSB will host the U13 FOBISIA games in March from 22nd to 24th. The Primary FOBISIA Game hosts is still not confirmed but most likely the last week in May 2017.
Wherever you are off to this summer have a great break, I look forward to seeing everyone returning to BSB next year and if you are leaving thanks for all of your support over this and past years as it has been our pleasure offering the sports we do and the program we have created for all the students, parents, and community of BSB.
