Last week we welcomed back our Juilliard Curriculum Specialist Erin Wight to BSB.
Each visit has different objectives: in Term 1, she observed the Music teachers and the programme to see how Music runs at BSB. In this second visit, Erin again observed the Music teachers and did a short professional development session, but she also taught two demonstration lessons herself. She worked with Year 4 on the Juilliard Core Work “Ambush from 10 Sides” and explored the how symbols can inform musical elements and choices. With Year 7, she looked at the Juilliard Composer of Today Sean Shepherd’s piece “Metamorphoses”. They created and developed motifs and watched videos of the composer explaining his process and techniques.
On Friday 10th March, Erin gave a workshop to the parents, which began with a brief history and key points of the Nord Anglia-Juilliard collaboration. But the best way to learn is through doing, so the parents became the students and had a mini Juilliard music lesson on one of the core works. They were asked to compose and develop their ideas and discuss them. They had a great time sharing ideas and experiencing what their children experience in the curricular lessons at BSB.
Thank you very much to Erin for a wonderful second visit, and we all look forward to seeing her again in May. Please enjoy the photos of her second visit.
