In May 2017, 11 BSB students participated in the fifth Asia-Pacific Bilingual Festival in Shanghai. There were almost 200 participants from 8 different schools, including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Hong Kong and Taiwan.
The 11 BSB students took part in all of activities, including bilingual storytelling, bilingual poetry recital, bilingual speech and bilingual debate. Because the preparation time was quite tight, students even prepared their activities on the express train from Beijing to Shanghai. Our debate team worked on their defence and did not sleep until mid-night. The students collaborated together sharing their resources and help each other.
During the first day of competition, it was extremely competitive. For the debate, BSB team was against ISB team and SUIS team. Our four brave speakers from KS3 withstood the pressure on losing the first round and won the second round. The forth speaker, Tian Yue Gao (Cathy) from Year 9 made the most affirmative and strong bilingual conclusion at the end, which was praised by judges and teachers from other schools.
For individual sessions, each participant only had 2-5 minutes to present their bilingual stories, poems or speeches. Every one tried their best to impress the judges. By hard working, YuBo Shao from Year 8 eventually got into the finals, which inspired the team.
