Rebecca Louise Wykes (1)

Pre Nursery (Teddies)Teacher, Assistant Head EYFS

I was fortunate in that I knew I wanted to be a teacher so when I studied at Durham University I did a four year teaching degree, (BA Ed. Hons). I then taught for two years in the UK before I began my travels overseas. I worked in three international schools in Kuwait before I arrived in Beijing in August 2010. I have taught children from Pre Nursery, right up to Year 9. I began teaching in 1995.

I believe that every child should be given the opportunity to do their best. I aim to provide an environment in which they are happy to have a go and take a risk, supporting them in the choices they make. I have taught many year groups in the Primary school but have found my niche in the EYFS. I am excited to go to school in the morning and want to be part of the new discoveries these children make on a daily basis.

BSB was the right place for me to come to after I left Kuwait. The ethos of the school, the family feel was not only something I wanted to be a part of but also something I wanted my children to have an experience of.

I live here in Beijing with my three children. who are all in the Secondary school I really believe that they are extremely privileged to be here and living in China, making friends with children from all over the world. They are truly citizens of the world. They are learning Chinese and speak well, much better than me, whilst receiving an excellent education. As a family we do many things together. We attend church every week at the Arts Centre. The children enjoy my delicious cakes; I love to bake! They also take part in many sporting activities and I also manage to find time to exercise too (I’m a little bit obsessed with Cross-Fit training. I love it!). We have many friends here and spend time enjoying meals together, picnics or adventures down town to explore Beijing! Friends become family and there is a great family feel at BSB which makes living here a truly unique experience.
