I graduated in Special Education in Venezuela in 2003 and finished my postgraduate in Neuro-rehabilitation in Spain in 2006. During my studies, I had the opportunity to practise in the area of rehabilitation for patients with spinal cord injury, acquired brain damage and other serious neurological disabilities. I also had the opportunity to develop and follow a program for employment opportunities for the inclusion of people with disabilities into the workplace. I have been working in Special Educational Needs for over 9 years, integrating children and adults with special needs into mainstream schools and the work environment for the promotion of a more inclusive society.
I joined the British School of Beijing in August 2010 as the Special Educational Needs Coordinator in our Shunyi Campus. My role as a SENCo is to provide support for children with learning disabilities, monitors and assists our teachers by exploring and evaluating individual educational plans (IEPs). I, together with class teachers and specialists, develop effective strategies and resources to support pupils to achieve and access all the areas of the National Curriculum. I also work closely with parents, teachers and other professionals who are involve in the additional support for pupils with special needs.
Besides being a full time teacher, I am also a mum and I love spending time with my son, who attends BSB Primary School. I enjoy cooking and more than that I love to experiment with different cuisines at new restaurants. I also love to travel, visiting new countries and experiencing new cultures and food.
