After graduating from the University of Hull with a BSc in Psychology, I went on to achieve TEFL certification and started a job as a TEFL teacher in Thailand, after already having experience as a youth worker in the UK. The experience confirmed my desire to follow this up with gaining QTS on my return home, which I achieved through the PGCE route at the University of Hull. Since completing my PGCE, I went on to teach at large suburban primary school in the East Riding of Yorkshire. It was a great advantage to receive initial support and guidance from the school in my NQT year, learning lots from their enquiry-based curriculum and their approach towards empowering children to strive for excellence. I became the PE coordinator for the school in my second year and achieved the Gold award in the National schools mark for sport, an achievement centred on the ethos of providing all children with a large variety of opportunities.
I decided to join BSB because of their ‘Be ambitious’ philosophy and the opportunities they provide to make sure the children’s rich experience is complemented with success. My experience allows me to offer a mirrored philosophy and an energetic approach to the classroom, making sure all children’s needs are catered for.
Previously, I lived in Hull, which is a city in East Yorkshire and has been crowned the UK’s city of culture; a very proud moment for the residents. I am very passionate towards a variety of sports and look forward to trying a new sport in Beijing. Also, I love the outdoors and will relish opportunities to explore some of China’s varied landscapes and natural and man-made wonders, especially the Great Wall.
I feel most excited about Beijing city itself, being incredibly modern yet having such a rich history. To live and contribute in a capital city of a country that is a global leader in development is surely a rewarding experience and I thoroughly enjoy delving into its culture.
